Paralegal
Overview:
The Starkey Law Group is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, extremely organized, and great at task management. This position offers the opportunity to work within our local government team. As a Local Government Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal support to our local government attorneys. Joining our firm will provide you with the opportunity to work with a seasoned team of professionals and take on complex legal work.
Responsibilities:
- Calendar deadlines for attorneys and maintain an accurate and updated calendar.
- Assist in preparing for trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
- Properly open, maintain, and close electronic case files.
- Takes initiative to ensure the needs of the client’s cases are being met, which requires consistent review, analysis, and updating of case files.
- Ensures all correspondence email and regular mail is saved promptly.
- Conducts legal research using tools like Fast Case, Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, and other online tools.
- Coordinate with external parties, such as courts, opposing counsel, court reporters, and expert witnesses.
- Keeps track of all expenses for each case and pays/ facilitates the payments of case-related invoices.
- Responsible for receiving and properly documenting calls and voicemails.
- Performs necessary travel, including trips to the post office, court, and other locations to serve clients.
- Shows competency in understanding legal terminology, concepts, and processes.
- Responsible for processing error-free legal documents, including, but not limited to demands, complaints, answers, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents.
- Manages caseload and transaction matter reports collaboratively with other support staff and attorneys.
- Responsible for managing the City Attorney’s designated local government email.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree/ Paralegal Certificate/ Equivalent Experience.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a paralegal.
- Ability and willingness to learn and manage new concepts and practice areas.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and administrative acumen.
- Knowledge of legal terminology, processes, and procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, RingCentral, MyCase, Outlook, and G-Suite.
- Strong problem-solving and multitasking skills.
- Ability to reason and think independently, critically, and analytically.
- Ability to build rapport with clients, staff, and client representatives.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
